Every Day in Every Way: A Year-Round Calendar of Preschool Learning Challenges
Published in Paperback by Lake Pub Co (December, 1989)
Authors: Cynthia Holley and Faraday Burditt
Average review score:

THE GUIDE for Preschool teachers
This book, plus the Macmillian Sing & Learn records, is the basis for my curriculum. I would recommend the Resource book too, but that is ahrd to get.

There is a calendar format in the different areas for each of the themes. Books are recommended; which can be very helpful.

The one teaching book I can't do without!

One of the absolute best ECE curriculum books around!
I teach pre-school and I use this book on a daily basis. It is packed full of activities to do with young children. It has a complete lesson plan for each week of the year. I love the calendar format and the circle time time ctivities, in particular. Also recommended: The Busy classroom and I am, I can( a pre-school curriculum). This book is worth much more than the price!!!

Every Day With Jesus
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (January, 1996)
Author: Greg Laurie
Average review score:

A welcome addition to daily Bible reading
Laurie does an excellent job of applying the scriptures to our every day life. Easy to understand and analogies you can relate to. Good reading material for everyone.

Great Devotional for Christians, Very Relevant
Greg Laurie has written a daily devotional that is both easy to read and relevant to our every day lives. This devotional uses the life of Jesus as the basis of each entry. At the end of the book, readers would have gained greater insight into the life of Jesus while developing a deeper devotion to Him.

Everyday Miracles: Unexpected Blessings in a Mother's Day
Published in Hardcover by Broadman & Holman Publishers (July, 1999)
Author: Dale Hanson Bourke
Average review score:

A refreshing view of motherhood
I thoroughly enjoyed Dale's reflections about her children. As a mother of a 2-year-old, I have a better appreciation of my son through the insights that she shared. I'm now more open to what God is trying to reveal to me through my own son.

I've also recommended this book to the mothers in our Moms In Touch group, who meet to pray for the children, administrators, and staff at our children's day care.

the essay on what it means to be a mother is amazing!
I received an excerpt of this book in an e-mail: the essay was a description of how one's life changes when you become a mother. It was the most amazing and accurate description I have ever read about the beautifully troubling work of parenting. Worth the purchase price of the book!

Everything New and Who's Who in Clown Ministry: With 75 Skits for Special Days
Published in Paperback by Meriwether Pub (December, 1993)
Authors: Janet Litherland, Arthur L. Zapel, and Rhonda Wray
Average review score:

Whats New has a lot to share!
I found the book very helpful in my own clown ministry as I learned from the chapters on clowns from around the world and their tips they shared.

If you want a good perspective on gospel clowning, get this book!

This book is a must for anyone doing clown ministry!!
This book has the insite for those wishing to do or are already doing clown ministry work. It has interviews with top people in clown ministry today and some folks that are not that well know. Great insite into how others are doing it today. This book also has wonderful skits you can use on your own or with a group. Our "Fools for Christ" group has used several skits with great success. This is a highly recommended book in my opinion.

ExTension: The 20-Minute-a-Day, Yoga-Based Program to Relax, Release & Rejuvenate the Average Stressed-Out Over-35-Year-Old- Body
Published in Paperback by Fireside (April, 1994)
Authors: Sam Dworkis and Peg Moline
Average review score:

Great Book
I read this book after delving into "home yoga" for about 3 months. As is probably common, I was doing many of the poses only semi-correctly. There is a lot of reading to be done here, but there is incredible detail to help anyone elicit the poses correctly. Dworkis also divides each pose for beginner, moderate, and advanced. After a particularly tough day of running and 5 sets of tennis, I followed the poses and felt refreshed, relaxed, and loose afterwards. The workout is also really only 20 minutes (after learning the poses) and fun to complete as well as challenging when striving for a more advanced level.

As an exercise physiologist certified fitness instructor...
As an exercise physiologist and certified group fitness instructor/personal trainer I highly recommend this book. I have been hesitant to try yoga because of the contraindicated moves (called poses), however this book makes the necessary modifications so that the program is safe, yet still effective and fun. I have looked at many yoga books, and even more videos and classes and this is my favorite. I actually recorded (audio) myself reading some of the descriptions of the poses so that I could do the entire sequence with someone to "cue" me with the appropriate instructions!

Fade Out: The Calamitous Final Days of Mgm
Published in Paperback by Doubleday (October, 1991)
Author: Peter Bart
Average review score:

A fascinating insider's look at MGM's decline
For anyone interested in the business machinations of the Hollywood film studios, this is a must. The absorbing story of how the film studio that once boasted 'more stars than there are in heaven' ended up a 1980's corporate wreck. Starts out in 1969 when billionaire Kirk Kerkorian bought MGM, chronicles the few ups (and many downs), finishing up with the studio's sale to Giancarlo Paretti and Mr. Bart's assertion that 'an era ends when its dreams are exhausted. MGM's era has clearly ended'. I quite agree with this but MGM seems determined to cling to life, feeding on the fading memories of its glorious past. Excellent stuff! If you read this, Mr. Bart, it's a great book but how about an updated version, to take account of the new period of Kerkorian's ownership?

Curious about the origins of "Rain Man"?
If you are, or you enjoy getting a glimpse of how Hollywood really works, then this little gem is a must read. Bart's straighforward style and insider's viewpoint keeps this book going, and your interest level up. While it may be a little dated, the realities in the book continue to ring true today in what is going on in the film industry.

A charming book
This wonderful book takes the reader through the days of the Christmas season with an activity for each day. My family and I looked forward to each day's activity and found we treasured the time spent together . . . without the television set on! We plan to make it a yearly tradition.

FamilyFun Boredom Busters: 365 Games, Crafts & Activities For Every Day of the Year
Published in Spiral-bound by Hyperion (June, 2002)
Authors: Deanna F. Cook, Experts at Familyfun Magazine, Walt Disney Company, and Family Fun Magazine
Average review score:

another great FamilyFun book...
I think I have all of the FamilyFun books now and Boredom Busters is just as great as the others. By using common items found around the house kids can find lots of fun things to make and do. I highly recommend all of the FamilyFun books and magazine as well. Neither you or your kids will be disappointed.

Family Fun Saves the Day Again!
This book is a fantastic resource for those days when you are struggling to think of new ways to have fun with the kids. I liked the variety, for example some projects did not require a lot of advance preparation and can be done in under thirty minutes, while others look quite involved. And it's not all just a bunch of arts and crafts --this book includes tons of games and activities for everything from snowday fun to a day at the beach. There are also some fun with food projects (though this section doesn't offer much that's new if you already have any cooking with kids books). I've only had the book a week and I've already used several of the ideas -- my third grade son and I made the marshmallow snowman on page 129 for a school project and we used the backyard games section to plan party games for ten boys. That was a blast! This book reminded us of some old games we loved to play when we were kids and helped us think up some new games. The party was a big success and this is a great book to have on hand for those times you'd love to have the T.V. turned off and the kids tuned in to fun!

The Fat Tracker Diary: 90-Day Diet & Exercise Journal
Published in Spiral-bound by Solution GraphX (July, 1995)
Author: Karen S. Chisholm
Average review score:

The Fat Tracker Diary
I find The Fat Tracker to be very useful in my endeavor to keep track of all of the calories I consume on a daily basis. The fast food listings in the calorie and fat list at the back of the book are extremely helpful when I eat out. The check list for the basic food groups helps me plan what I eat daily. I really like the convenient purse size.

The Fat Tracker
After only using the Fat Tracker for one week, I have already lost 5 pounds! It is very easy to use, and it has been exactly what I've needed to stay on track. It's been a wonderful tool to use while I'm on my diet plan. I just love it. Wish me further success and thank you! Linda, Administrative Assistant, Ohio

Faulkner in the University
Published in Paperback by University Press of Virginia (March, 1995)
Authors: Frederick L. Gwynn, Joseph L. Blotner, and Douglas Day
Average review score:

The best advice for writers by the best advisor and writer
I must say, that when I first picked this book up, I was a bit skeptical. It was wrapped in plastic giving me no idea of what was in it, and it was by some publishing company I never heard of. But, being an impulse buyer, I paid for it, and brought it to a coffee shop where I continued to read and read, on the way home, while watching television, and even when I went to bed, and did not put it down until I read the whole thing. As a writer and fellow fan of Faulkner, I highly recommend this book to any student or fan (what's the difference, though?) of Faulkner's writings, and especially to any writers out there, and most of all, any Faulkner teachers. Faulkner is asked any question you can think of in this book, from certain meanings in his, "The Bear", to the long time controversy about the order of sections in "The Sound and the Fury", to the Adlers in "As I Lay Dying", all the way to why he prefers the Old Testament to the New. He even puts down Henry James in this book, and talks about his greatest influences on his writing, his favorite books (such as Cervantes' Don Quixote) and even puts in some good advice to aspiring authors, and how they should take writing, and even advice on how to write in the traditional Southern Gothic style. Truly a magnificent book that deserves top priority to any fan or teacher of Faulkner, or any writer in general! A masterpiece!!!
